Come and Worship Him
A Jesse Tree Countdown to Christmas (By Inspired Traditions: Beverly Smith)
When the wise men were looking for the Messiah, they said, "We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him" (Matthew 2:2). During advent, we celebrate the first coming of Jesus and look forward to his return. This Jesse Tree guide is a tool for children during the advent season as they count down to Christmas day. For centuries, the Jesse Tree tradition taught children about the family tree of Jesus. It is named from the first verse in Isaiah 11:1 which says, "A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse." Jesse, the father of David, is a great-grandfather of Jesus. This Jesse Tree guide is enhanced with references from both the Old and New Testaments to share not just the lineage of Jesus, but the Good News of His coming and the prophecy fulfilled. Through the verses, children make connections between the Old and New Testaments to see God's perfect plan to bring us back to himself through Jesus.
