Making children feel welcome at Siskiyou Christian Fellowship is a priority for our church. We want kids to feel welcome here, to be excited about coming to church and to grow in their relationship with Jesus.

 Curriculum

#13 GRAIN : Ruth 2:2-3, 8-12, 4:13-17; Matthew 1:1-5
Connection to Jesus - Ruth, a great-grandmother of Jesus (Matthew 1:1-5), left her own country with Naomi and chose the God of Israel. A man named Boaz first noticed Ruth when she gathered grain in his field. When Boaz married Ruth, he rescued both women from poverty. The grain symbol reminds us that Jesus also rescues us and makes us his own.

#14 STUMP : Isaiah 11:1; Jeremiah 23:5; Romans 15:4-13
Connection to Jesus - Isaiah told about the Savior who would come. Like a small branch that grows out of a stump into a new tree, Jesus would be born into Jesse’s family (Matthew 1:6). The stump symbol reminds us that Jesus is the promised Messiah.
#15 STAFF : 1 Samuel 16:1, 10-13; Isaiah 40:11; Ezekiel 37:24; John 10:11-16; 1 Peter 2:25; Rev. 7:17 Connection to Jesus - David, Jesse’s son, was only a simple shepherd, but God made him a king. The staff reminds us that Jesus calls Himself the Good Shepherd, and He lays down His life for the sheep.

#16 CROWN : 1 Kings 2:45; Isaiah 9:6-7; Luke 1:31-33; Acts 13:22-23
Connection to Jesus - God made a promise to David that his kingdom would never end. Solomon, a great-grandfather of Jesus (Matthew 1:7), sat on the thrones after his father David. The crown symbol reminds us that Jesus kept God’s promise as our forever king.

#17 BIG FISH : Jonah 1:1-6, 11-17; Matthew 12:38-41
Connection to Jesus - Jonah spent three days and three nights in the belly of a big fish. Jesus described how long he would be in the tomb using this familiar story. The big fish symbol reminds us that Jesus spent three days in the grave before rising again.

#18 TONGS: Isaiah 6:1-7; Romans 3:23-25; Hebrews 9:12
Connection to Jesus - Isaiah saw the Lord in all his glory. He cried out with sadness because Isaiah knew he was unclean in front of God. His guilt was removed when a coal from the altar of sacrifice touched his lips. The symbol of tongs gripping a piece of coal reminds us that Jesus gave his life as the final sacrifice for sin.

#19 TABLET : Psalm 111:9; Isaiah 9:2; Luke 1:11-20, 57-68, 76-80
Connection to Jesus - Jesus’ relatives, Zechariah and Elizabeth, became parents at an old age. Zechariah lost his ability to talk until after their child was born. The writing tablet symbol reminds us that when Zechariah wrote, “His name is John,” he could suddenly speak again. The Holy Spirit filled him and he prophesied about the coming Messiah.

#20 GRASSHOPPER : Isaiah 40:3; Malachi 3:1, 4:5; Mark 1:1-8; Matthew 11:7-15; John 1:19-23 Connection to Jesus - John the Baptist, Jesus’ cousin, preached in the desert and ate locusts and honey. He warned people to turn back to God. The grasshopper symbol reminds us that John the Baptist
prepared the way for Jesus.

#21 LILY : Isaiah 7:14; Luke 1:26-38
Connection to Jesus - As a sign of purity, the lily symbol reminds us that Jesus was born of God and not a human father. Isaiah prophesied long ago that the Messiah would be born to a virgin. The angel Gabriel appeared to Mary with incredible news that God had chosen her to be the mother of Jesus.

#22 HAMMER : Jeremiah 33:14-15; Matthew 1:1, 16-25
Connection to Jesus - Joseph came from the family line of King David and worked as a carpenter. An angel visited Joseph in a dream to guide him in protecting Mary and Jesus. The hammer symbol reminds us that God used an earthly father to shelter the Savior of the world.

#23 LAMB : Micah 5:2; Luke 2:1-20; Matthew 2:1-6
Connection to Jesus - Micah prophesied that a ruler would come from the little town of Bethlehem. The lamb reminds us of the shepherds who hurried to Bethlehem on the night of Jesus’ birth to welcome the Savior.

#24 BABY: Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:21-23; Luke 2:25-33; John 3:17; 1 Timothy 1:15 Connection to Jesus - Baby Jesus took his first breath in a small stable. The God of the universe entered creation through Jesus. Prophets gave the Messiah many names to describe God in different ways. The baby symbol reminds us that we call Jesus Immanuel to say, “God is with us.”

#25 STAR : Numbers 24:17; Isaiah 60:3; Matthew 2:1-2, 9-11
Connection to Jesus - The star symbol reminds us that a brilliant light led the wise men to Jesus. When they found Him, they bowed down in worship and gave Him gifts. This Christmas we celebrate the birth of Jesus who is the greatest gift of all!

Come and Worship Him
A Jesse Tree Countdown to Christmas (By Inspired Traditions: Beverly Smith)
When the wise men were looking for the Messiah, they said, "We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him" (Matthew 2:2). During advent, we celebrate the first coming of Jesus and look forward to his return. This Jesse Tree guide is a tool for children during the advent season as they count down to Christmas day. For centuries, the Jesse Tree tradition taught children about the family tree of Jesus. It is named from the first verse in Isaiah 11:1 which says, "A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse." Jesse, the father of David, is a great-grandfather of Jesus. This Jesse Tree guide is enhanced with references from both the Old and New Testaments to share not just the lineage of Jesus, but the Good News of His coming and the prophecy fulfilled. Through the verses, children make connections between the Old and New Testaments to see God's perfect plan to bring us back to himself through Jesus.

Who We Are

We are a congregation of believers who want to know this Jesus we teach about and strive to serve. We believe the Word of God contained in the 66 books of the Bible is the only infallible guide to knowing God and how we ought to respond to His love toward us. We aim to be a fellowship family that is loving, honest and truly helpful as we instruct one another in the things of God's Word. It is our earnest hope, as you join with us, that you learn of Jesus through a solid, tangible relationship with Him and the fellowship that we have would be centered around service to Our King and Rescuer: Jesus!

If you have questions regarding our doctrinal stance on a specific matter, we would be glad to meet with you and search scripture together as we learn more of the magnificent salvation that has been freely offered to us!

Our mission is simple. We are desiring to know Jesus!
